Brilliant British Gymnastics Championships for Park Wrekin
Park Wrekin were in Liverpool, at the Echo Arena, from 24 – 26th March, competing in the Women’s 2017 British Gymnastics Championships.
Laura Beasley, Pheobe Nicolls and Isla Warr were the first to compete in the junior AA competition.
Laura made a great comeback, after returning from an injury restricting her from competing in her first year of junior competition. After falling twice in the all around, she still nabbed 4th place, also qualifying for beam and vault apparatus finals.
Pheobe Nicolls, competed on vault and floor, completing clean routines. Her floor routine stood out, with her expressive dance and artistry to the classic, Swan Lake.
Isla Warr, had a good competition – apart from two unfortunate falls on the bars and beam. Her floor routine stood out. Isla brings so much personality to floor! She knows how to get the crowd AND the judges on side with her Sax floor routine – they were clapping and dancing along..
First year senior, Alice Kinsella came away from her first Senior British Gymnastics Championships as an AA silver medallist, followed by Ellesse Oates and Charlie Fellows who finished sixth and seventh! To have 3 Gymnasts from the same club in the top seven of Great Britain is an incredible achievement.
A calm and confident, Alice came into the arena ready to compete against some of the worlds best such as, former Olympians, Ellie Downie, Becky Downie, and Claudia Fragapanie. After an amazing start on beam to score a very high, 14.000 and with an expressive floor routine to ‘Fiddler on the roof’, she claimed the silver medal – shared with Maisie Methuen as joint second. Ellie Downie took the gold medal in the senior AA. Alice qualified for the beam and floor finals the following day.
Ellesse made an amazing mark as a senior GB gymnast, coming 6th all around, with an amazing bar and floor routine that nabbed her a place in the event finals. She held her own as a senior, against some very tough, experienced competition.
2017 marked Charlie’s come back into competition since 2015, and she came back with style, placing 7th in the AA and winning the bronze medal in the floor final with her unique and expressive routine. She also qualified for the bar final.
All in all the 2017 British Gymnastics Championships was a huge success for our Park Wrekin Gymnasts, congratulations to all who competed.
